Mom butt…Cottage cheese dimples…Jello-jiggler thighs…OH MY!!! Yes, a large number of us have some cellulite somewhere on our bodies. It doesn’t just happen to those with a few extra pounds either! So if you are one of us, give this DIY Cellulite Scrub at try.
While I fully believe that what other people think of me in my tank top, shorts, or bathing suit doesn’t matter…what I think of ME, does matter. I don’t like the way I feel when I have a lot of cellulite visible. And if I can use specific scrubs to help reduce it or it’s appearance…sign me up!
What is Cellulite?
So, what exactly is cellulite? Well, it’s persistent subcutaneous fat that causes dimpled skin…basically it’s fatty deposits just beneath the skin’s surface.
While it’s not necessarily harmful, it could be a sign of excess weight or fat. You can work to lose weight and exercise to help reduce or rid your body of this cellulite. There are also radiofrequency and laser treatments, as well as retinol creams that can help. However, those are pricey treatments and may have to be repeated on a regular basis.
At What Cost?
So how much do these treatments cost? Well, the most cost-effective are creams which usually run around $30 and up and have to be applied daily. There are a range of treatments that escalate in cost, none of which are permanent. However, there is a semi-permanent solution involving a combo of lasers and lipo that will cost you about $5,000! It could last for up to 6 years too. You can check out this article from RealSimple to learn more about these options.
As I often say, ‘I can totally make that for less’! Obviously I’m not talking the laser treatments or anything fancy like that, but what I’m getting at is if you are going to have to do something repeatedly, like applying a cream, you might as well make a DIY Cellulite Scrub and save a ton of money!

DIY Cellulite Scrub
- 1 cup of coffee grounds (caffeinated)
- 1 cup of sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 8 oz. coconut oil (I used LouAna)
*Note: It’s important to use caffeinated and not decaf coffee as part of the reason this works is the caffeine has a tightening effect on the skin.
*Melt the coconut oil in a microwave safe dish & then set it aside
*While that is cooling slightly…mix the coffee, sugar, and cinnamon together in a bowl
*Add the coconut oil to the dry mix and stir well.
You will want to let it sit out on the counter for awhile so that it will firm up and dry-out some, then store it in an air-tight container.

Use it 2-3 times a week by applying it in circular motions to dry skin. Follow with your normal shower routine! This is similar to a body scrub, but for targeted areas. So avoid using your body scrub on the same areas you use this DIY cellulite scrub!
